Manila's most dangerous areas identified

An increased police visibility is expected from the metro’s policemen in the coming yuletide season as the Philippine National Police had named the most notorious crime-prone areas in the National Capital Region.
PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr. said anti-crime strategies have been implemented by the PNP to combat crimes in the coming of the Yuletide season, especially in the 21 identified areas where crimes are rampant.

Most wanted kidnapper in PH nabbed in Tarlac

The Philippines’ most notorious kidnapper has been nabbed by the Philippine National Police (PNP), thanks to “strengthened” reward system.
Joel Tapec, a former officer of the Eastern Police District, was arrested last September 18 at Moncada, Tarlac because of an informant’s cue. Tapec was deemed to be one of the most wanted criminals by the PN since 2005.

Spanish reintegrated in high school curriculum

The new K to 12 program of the Department of Education has seen the reintegration of the Spanish language in the high school curriculum, with the formal instruction expected to be taught in 2016.
“The inclusion of Spanish will be added in Grades 11 and 12 because these years start the student’s career path,” Linor Marcel Tongson, Education Program Specialist II of Bureau of Secondary Education said.

It's final: Dinagat Islands now a province

The Philippines has officially welcomed its 80th province, the Dinagat Islands, amid moves from politicians to stop the official declaration of the province.
The Supreme Court on September 11, 2012 has affirmed the legality of Republic Act No. 9355 which declared the separation of Dinagat Islands from Surigao del Norte.

The church and its liturgical objects, along with the image of Our Lady of La Naval de Manila, were regarded as objects of “outstanding cultural significance.”

World Bank upgrades PH economic growth forecast to five percent

The World Bank increased its economic growth outlook for the Philippines, amidst its downgrade on powerhouse economies of East Asia.
In its East Asia and Pacific Economic Data Monitor report released on October 9, the World Bank upgraded the economic growth of Philippine economy by the expansion of the gross domestic product to five percent from the original 4.6 percent.

Footbridges to be installed with CCTV cameras

Footbridges in the Metro will soon have roofs, gates, and especially closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
